About the Juror: Curator at The Heckscher Museum of Art in Huntington, New York, Lisa Chalif has organized dozens of exhibitions that focus on
various aspects of the Museum's permanent collection, as well as loan exhibits on a diverse range of subjects, including experimental photography,
environmental art, appropriation, art and the automobile, and occasional solo exhibitions of Long Island
artists, including photographer Joseph Szabo.
In addition to raising money and awareness through her art, DeBris works with
various non-profits to raise funds for art education, and sits on a panel to discuss how
artists can contribute to
environmental public policy.
The
artist will also address
various uses of photography, video, and installation when positioning the body as a vehicle for representation of geopolitical and
environmental issues.
The exhibition highlights strategies
artists have employed in the current milieu to deal with and comment on the
various issues that plague our society; issues like racism, sexism, homophobia, inequality and privilege, migration and
environmental degradation.
The nine
artists work with
various media, presenting photography, sculpture, painting, video and installation, juxtaposing material and form with the socio - political, economic and
environmental frameworks within which the works were made; Art that is — or has become — reflective and temporal contemplations of its varying eras, as we simultaneously revisit Modern Art Oxford's fascinating history.
