You gain XP by killing enemies and completing quests, and leveling up will unlock perks via the game's
version of a skill tree.

MP is being worked on, in two years there will be a full blown MMO
version of the game with more classes, more environments, more quests, similar gameplay but with expanded
skill trees and so on.
Although the main part that disappointed me is the
skill tree because there are only really 6 main
skills for each character unless you count the upgraded
version of these
skills which makes it 18.
Using an updated
version of the Titan Quest engine, for those who played TQ, it will have a familiar feel as to stash, emblems, itemization and dual - classing
skill trees.
The variation in
skills is also very small — every character only has three or four active abilities which get stronger with higher ranks, which you unlock with
skill points later in the
tree, along with multi-target
versions of those abilities which you gain in the same way.
