Notable for its larger size and more aggressive behavior, barred owls have
vertical dark markings against a white belly and a hooting call birders mimic with the words, «Who cooks for you?»
In dramatic contrast is Lot 229, a Richter oil on canvas, 21 by 15 3/4 inches that is a
dark gray work with a long
vertical squiggle and two other small
marks.
Dark in colour and with strong
vertical lines, their size determined by the artist's height and reach, they
mark a period of personal grief and, in some cases, the prevailing Troubles in Northern Ireland, the latter explicitly referenced in Menhir (Bloody Sunday), 1976.
