of them like Kindle Paper White is a
very basic device just to read
eBooks and some
of them Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX are high
end tablets that can be used for various purpose like internet and emails.
From the
very beginning when consumers were regaled with threats that digital would be the
end of books, and when authors were assured that
ebooks would lead to career -
ending piracy, the two sides have waged battles, both for readership and in the courtrooms.
One area that Kroes cites is the resent Books Without Borders initiative that is aimed at putting an
end to the difficulties associated with
ebook purchasing in the EU, a union that was designed for the
very purpose
of making commerce more feasible and less irritating for both the consumers and the producers.
Once again, you are looking at
very specific skill sets here, and unless you do have the technical wherewithal and understanding
of what
eBooks are, what their technical implementation looks like and what the resulting limitations are, it might not be advisable for you to tackle this
end of the publishing pipeline yourself.
Now let's see if they begin to pay royalties on US sales at the
end of the month for
ebooks sold during the previous month — this would really set them far apart from the rest
of the pack and make many
ebook authors
very happy.
Because the marginal cost
of an
ebook is zero, absent the Kindle their price might
very well have
ended up being, well, zero.
But there are some
very good reasons why I
end up buying most
of my books as
ebooks now.
DBW's new list makes it all too clear that authors are not making the independent progress many
of them think they are, and that Big Six domination and higher -
end ebook pricing are still
very much a part
of this story.
As more and more tablets and smart phones and comparable devices are adopted by the entire range
of users, from high -
end goodies to
very affordable low -
end devices, and now that Kindles and Nooks are routinely being offered below $ 50 — and I suspect within 2 - 3 years, there will be sub - $ 35 Eink readers —
ebooks are soon going to be the only market that really matters.
I would start
very simply by putting them into a Word document, and then look at a site like Amazon Createspace (for converting to an «in print» book) or KDP (Kindle Direct publishing) for an
eBook (links at the
end of this article).
All the PDF
ebooks that I've tried work well, with the exception
of one that
ended up having text that wasn't
very dark.
In the
end the Nook Touch doesn't make for a
very good PDF
ebook reader out
of the box.
