When we were redoing our

If you've read much on this blog, you might have noticed that I don't post many details about my kids online, other than
very general information about how my 4 - year -
old helped me clean or how one of my kids once spilled activated charcoal all over my
kitchen.
My children have been helping me in the
kitchen since a
very early age — both before even turning 2 years

VERY old, but we didn't have the money to replace them so we had them repainted and changed out the hardware.
I have real marble or marble tiles (100ys
old) in almost all my bathrooms and
kitchen, and while easy to clean, it's
very COLD and hard underfoot.
I was 22 when my mother handed me the first
kitchen appliance that was ever my
very own: her

But I can remember
very well how my happy place was always in the

old house where I grew up.
I have still made money but I have been WAY OFF when I have taken on
older homes that needed EVERYTHING or
very large homes that had great potential but had more bathrooms and larger
kitchens that really rack up the costs.
They had really
old bathrooms and

very dated and sometimes trashed inside.

One thing we've noticed in the
older, smaller houses in our price range is that quite often the
kitchens are small, closed in and
very dark.
In our

I did some «budget - friendly» renovating of my
kitchen 2 yrs ago, stripping
old wallpaper, putting in the subway tile backsplash, adding bright white beadboard halfway up walls and on the existing white cabinet ends, painting the rest of the walls soft white (sometimes looks
very very pale yellow).
I suppose my problem is, after I close my laptop, trying to muster some excitement over my
very nice yet 10 year
old remodeled
kitchen (with a frig that is a ticking time bomb and doesn't match the dishwasher we replaced a few years ago) and my 20 year
old living room furniture.
But I'm getting ready to update my

Remodeling the
kitchen always seems to make it look like the
old one is some
old thing that should have been getting rid of

I find even new American
kitchens very traditional /
old - fashioned looking but I guess it's just a regional taste thing — basically it's each to their own when it comes to whether or not a style is sympathetic to an
old house.
