The first woman in East and Central Africa to earn a doctoral degree, Professor Maathai became chair of the Department
of Veterinary Anatomy at the University of Nairobi.
Although she enjoyed her experiences in the United States, Maathai decided to return to Kenya, where, in 1971 she completed her doctoral studies in
veterinary anatomy at the University of Nairobi.
One of Dr. Kalt's most memorable moments in veterinary medicine was the four years he and his family spent in Zimbabwe, Africa, where he
taught Veterinary Anatomy at the University of Zimbabwe.
In 2004, a class in
veterinary anatomy changed Adelaide Paul's (b. 1961) work — both what she does to earn a living and the art work she creates.
Wangari Maathai founded the Green Belt Movement while serving as a professor
of veterinary anatomy at the University of Nairobi.
She pursued doctoral studies in Germany and the University of Nairobi, obtaining a Ph.D. (1971) from the University of Nairobi where she also
taught veterinary anatomy.

Veterinary Anatomy and Stereologist at the University of Surrey, said: «The liver function of this amphibian, Siphonops annulatus, may provide us with a unique opportunity to solve one of the most devastating illnesses of the liver.
Maathai then joined the faculty of the university as a professor of
veterinary anatomy, becoming the first woman to hold a professorship at the school.
She became chair of the Department of
Veterinary Anatomy and an associate professor in 1976 and 1977 respectively.
She then becomes the first female professor at the University and its first woman chair of the Department of
Veterinary Anatomy.
She obtained degrees in Biological Sciences, and pursued doctoral studies in Germany and the University of Nairobi, before obtaining a Ph.D. (1971) from the University of Nairobi, where she also taught
veterinary anatomy.
In 1986 Dr. Cottrill completed her residency at Louisiana State University and attained a Masters of Science in
Veterinary Anatomy and Fine Structure in 1987.

veterinary anatomy, nutrition, parasitology, pathology, physiology, radiology, terminology, zoology, office practices, laboratory techniques, dentistry, and small and large animal clinical practices.
