documentary Secret Origin: The Story of DC Comics, a compelling insider's tale and a 75th anniversary celebration as seen through the inkwells of those who created and lived it, balanced with insights from key historians and filled with interviews, archival footage, and a dazzling parade of those forever riveting and splashy DC
covers.
The bulk of the extras are on disc two: extensive making - of
documentaries covering everything from story conception and design to various technical minutiae; concept and promotional art galleries; trailers and forced, would - be comic junket «interviews» with gushy TV entertainment reporters; profiles on the Incredibles and many other supers; a droll
video «essay» by the voice of Violet, Sarah Vowell; a faux blooper reel (an exercise that has long exhausted its novelty); and a large assortment of deleted scenes.
On the
documentary front, there is as ever simply too much for us to be able to
cover, but a few potential standouts are «Uncle Howard,» about a New York filmmaker who died of AIDS which features footage of William S. Burroughs, Jim Jarmusch, Tom DiCillo and more; «Zero Days,» Alex Gibney «s investigation of malware used for international espionage; two docs on famous photographers in «Don't Blink — Robert Frank» and «Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures ``; and finally «Strike a Pose,» a film catching up with the original dancers from Madonna «s «Vogue»
video, which sparked a craze and defined an era in pop.
The only thing not included from Arrow
Video's previous Blu - ray release is the featurette Chiodo Brothers» Earliest Films, which was likely considered overkill as the new
documentary covers them well.
Yet if you're looking for a
video game
documentary that
covers some more recent gaming, the selection is pretty slim.
