The element of truth in
this view of the supernatural is the obvious fact that religious experience is only possible to beings with mental or spiritual capacities, i.e., to human beings.

of participation in the divine life, whereby each individual will find, by conscious union with a Supreme
Being, the consummation
of his own personality.
A theological and

of serious scholarship, or easily reduced to a footnote in the history
of ideas.

of those who from some limited 19th century
view of science preclude the

am of those who say that on the basis
of their experience in the Christian community they affirm the miraculous.

of «the
supernatural» as meaning that which «in itself»
is wholly prior or other in
being than «the natural,» a naturalistic
view does not necessarily deny that there
is a
being such as God, but only that way
of categorizing such a
being.
Certainly the Bible bears witness to the wonderful works
of God, the signs and miracles
of His grace, but it
is anachronistic to read into these affirmations a much later understanding
of miracle, one which belongs particularly to the medieval
view of the interpenetration
of the two worlds — the natural and
supernatural.
On the other hand, if the Enlightenment
is correct and we ought to adopt a deistic
view of God, then it would
be theologically inappropriate to think
of supernatural intervention.
This personalist
view of the universe
is not only derived from
supernatural faith.
In the case
of the primitive Christian community, the coming events
were viewed as entirely
supernatural.
And since the human mind or soul can not
be viewed as part
of this machine, it belongs to a
supernatural sphere not affected by the laws
of nature.
What I think you, and most mystics, feel
is that we, the naturalists (ie / those who believe that we live in a natural world governed by the forces
of nature VS. a
supernatural world governed by
supernatural forces), should just
be quiet b / c you disagree with our rational world -
view.
In a strange kind ofa way, Rahner's
view of man
being dynamically constituted in a permanent existential
of supernatural life
