vigorous discussion here and elsewhere (e.g., Climate Audit and Skeptical Science) of the methods and findings in «A Reconstruction of Regional and Global Temperature for the Past 11,300 Years,» a recent Science paper by Shaun A. Marcott, Jeremy D. Shakun, Peter U. Clark and Alan C. Mix.
There's a very important distinction between factual statements and
vigorous expressions of opinion (sometimes discussed at Lucia's, as
here; see the link to Milkovich v. Lorain Journal for more
discussion), but I can't see how an EPA person gets to testify about how Steyn's readership would or should interpret the words.
