This is not something one usually sees in -25 °F temperatures without a big honking wood stove, yet the Disappear Retreat has
no visible form of heating.

Inside the greenhouse the
visible light is absorbed by the plants and soil and is converted into
heat, which is then emitted by the plants and soil in
form of infrared radiation.
By contrast, it features a different
heat signature than its actual signature along the vertical axis, thus
forming a different type
of illusion, which is
visible but not displaying the reality.
The moss
forms in response to the spreading
of the flare
heat in the hot coronal loops above the moss; the loops are not
visible in this TRACE 195 Angstrom image series because they are so hot that they radiate in x-rays, which are invisible to the TRACE instrument.
As Fourier put it, energy in the
form of visible light from the Sun easily penetrates the atmosphere to reach the surface and
heat it up, but
heat can not so easily escape back into space.»
Any system where energy is being accumulated in the
form of ordering will by definition have a discrepancy between incoming «low - entropy» energy (
visible photons) and outgoing «higher entropy» energy (
heat).
[James Shaffer]: «From my college book «Meteorology Today: An intro book to weather, climate and the environment» it seems a matter
of basic physics and such that the
Visible and some UV radiation reemitted by the Earth in the
form of infrared radiation is absorbed by CO2 and H2O (some not all) thus
heating them and they in turn
heat the rest
of the atmosphere».

1 The Rochestown House flats prior to the refurbishment; 2 aerated concrete blocks were chosen to
form new build elements, including a new third storey that allows for more generous apartment sizes; 3 new triple - glazed windows were installed outside the masonry layer so that the external insulation could wrap around them, and help prevent thermal bridging; 4 the airtightness layer was moved to the outside
of the structure by taping the joints
of the existing concrete panels, then extending that tape up onto the aerated blocks in the new floor; 5 Aerobord platinum EPS external insulation being fitted to the original concrete panel walls; 6 & 7 the new window frames
visible here in the external insulation layer, including Rockwool fire breaks; 8 openings for exhaust and supply intakes for the new Zehnder
heat recovery ventilation system, seen here prior to being insulated and airtightened; 9 installation
of the Bauder bitumen roofing membrane.
One suggestion he came up with was that the energy coming in from the sun in the
form of visible and ultra-violet light (known back then as «luminous
heat») was easily able to pass through Earth's atmosphere and
heat up the planet's surface, but that the «non-luminous
heat» (now known as infra - red radiation) then emitted by the Earth's surface could not make it back in the opposite direction quite so readily.
