Challenging conceptions of «insider» and «outsider»
art, the artists in the exhibition frequently create work using everyday objects that resonate both within the confines of a gallery or
museum and
among their own localized audiences who may or may not
visit art institutions.
As a DIA curator, I researched our extraordinary painting collection, enhanced our permanent galleries by displaying our artwork in new ways, curated temporary exhibitions,
visited private and public
art collections with our patrons, and identified new works for acquisition
among many other things — the work curators perform is one of the most interesting in the
museum profession because of the multiplicity of duties that it entails.
Among her many philanthropic involvements, Joyner is a trustee of the
Art Institute of Chicago and a member of the Tate International Council, the Director's Circle of the San Francisco

Museum and Sculpture Garden to make her 2017 Infinity Mirror rooms accessible to visitors with disabilities or mobility issues; in an new initiative
among art museums, the venue mapped out the six individual rooms and provided handicapped individuals
visiting the exhibition access to a complete 360 - degree virtual reality headset that allowed them to experience every aspect of the rooms, [77] as if they were actually walking through them.
