Cultures, Gifted and Talented Grades 6 - 8, 9 - 12 Submitted by Kimberly Emanuel] This activity will introduce students to the research process while investigating the contributions
of key African American leaders in the 1900s.
Its focus is the
visual arts and
culture of the American South within the context
of the
region's history and
culture.
They produce programming that challenges prevailing notions
of exhibition making, introduce new forms
of artistic practice, embed dialogues from other
regions into local conversations, and create points
of intersection between
visual, political, and technological
cultures.
The exhibition features artists who employ rural images and subjects such as horseracing, honkytonks, and homesteading, and addresses how the
visual culture of geographic
regions shapes perception and identity.
NEW ORLEANS, LA — Recognizing the need to engage a contemporary audience that appreciates the vibrant
visual culture of Louisiana and the role
of New Orleans as a rising, international art center, the Ogden Museum
of Southern Art is organizing the second annual Louisiana Contemporary Presented by
Regions Bank, a statewide, juried exhibition.
The exhibition examines a paradigm shift in
culture and the
visual arts between the early 1960s and the mid ‑ 1980s, which articulates a counter-narrative to the rhetoric
of developmentalism, resulting in early instances
of decolonial thought in the artistic practices in the
region.
By providing the public with immediate access to view the portfolios and credentials
of over 250 artists and designers via the internet; through meaningful partnerships with other cultural organizations; through community - based activities and exhibitions; and through an extensive online body
of timely art information, InLiquid brings to light the richness
of our
region's art activity, broadens audiences, and heightens appreciation for all forms
of visual culture.
