Some of the problems that
occur are a lack of interest in reading for pleasure, poor
vocabulary development and difficulties in employment, especially in job positions where reading would be required.
Because young children's learning — for example, the acquisition of new
vocabulary and the meanings behind those words —
occurs in the context of reciprocal relationships with adults and caregivers, it is difficult to tease apart children's cognitive, social, and emotional
development during these years.
