Peter Cullen's voice - over as of the introduction as Optimus Prime is a telling segment, as the bulk of
the voice track comes from the center channel and main speakers, with only the lowest octaves reproduced by the subwoofer.

As for the audio, while the DC's 5.1 DTS - HD MA
track sounds deceptively tamer than the TC's lossy 5.1 DTS option, after some level - matching the DC
comes out on top again; only with the DC does the
voice of Darkness
come close to reverberating with that basso profundo effect you'd expect.
The video transfer is in crisp 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen while audio is provided in an excellent and immersive Dolby 5.1 English dub (and here my qualification of a «general» lack of a western bias
comes into play) that is, nonetheless, inferior to the Japanese - language 2.0 surround
track, which features the original vocal talent who have, not including this film, logged over twenty - six hours of finished time
voicing these characters.
Next
comes a 26 - minute batch of deleted / alternate scenes (really storyboards with scratch
tracks underneath) with alternating video introductions from Clements and Musker that's for Ashman completists only, as these elisions are of note chiefly for the scraps of dialogue Ashman wrote or
voiced.
At around 1:30:00, the Dolby Atmos actually
comes off the rails, leading to
voice lag and requiring us to cycle through the 5 available
tracks to put it back into place.
