Razer purposefully placed the power and
volume buttons so that they're easily accessible in both portrait and landscape orientation.

I've pretty much gotten used to the sounds and thankfully some of them has a
volume button,
so I can turn down the
volume to a reasonable level.
Also, there's no
volume control,
so the beeping that accompanies any
button press is loud enough to potentially annoy those office neighbors I mentioned.
Ergonomics are also top - rate; the leather pad above the Comand dial on the center console supports the wrist oh -
so - nicely, and
buttons for other features (i.e.
volume, seating positions, navigation, etc) are logically placed a finger's length away from the knob.
Knobs and
buttons on the center stack for climate control and audio functions intelligently support the touchscreen display,
so I have no trouble changing
volume or climate controls while keeping my eyes on the winding roads and misty skyline ahead.
Hard
buttons for your
volume, seek, fan, temperature and seat heater (and cooling, if you select that option) controls are back, and we are
so very happy for that.
So would a traditional head unit with
volume knobs and preset
buttons.
The top priority remains ease of use,
so the various audio interfaces employ tried - and - true knobs for
volume and tuning, while the LE - and - up automatic climate control system (a welcome luxury in this price bracket) provides a large knob and a few foolproof
buttons.
Of course, the original Fire lacked physical
volume buttons,
so anything would be an improvement.
The issue of using the
volume buttons for page turning has also been overhauled
so that it now allows for better and more refined control.
The only way it felt comfortable was when I flipped the tablet around
so that the ports came out of the lower corners (or bottom); and in those scenarios, the power and
volume buttons ended up in an awkward placement, too.
Both the
volume rocker and the power
button also have good response and aren't too easy or too difficult to press, and they sit almost flush with the frame
so they don't protrude out too much, just enough to make them noticeable by touch.
The software will also have to be tweaked
so that you get to use the
volume buttons in a manner similar to the Menu and Back
buttons.

so press and hold power,
volume down and home
buttons together for a few seconds.
To do
so, shut it down and then power on by pressing
volume up + home key + power
buttons simultaneously.
Also, the
volume rocker and power on / off
button are directly opposite each other
so it's hard to press one without accidentally pressing the other.
It has very polished design elements such as the
volume buttons, stereo speakers, power
buttons and
so on.
On the side of the unit it has
volume switches, a power
button, and a orientation lock
button so you can lock the accelerometer to either landscape or portrait mode.
The device is
so slim it has no room for standard - sized ports, except for the audio jack on its right edge, which also holds a
volume rocker and the power
button.
There are now two separate
volume buttons, which have been moved a bit higher up the frame than their usual position,
so people don't accidentally press the power
button while pressing the
volume keys and vice versa.
Like iPad 2, the
volume control is on the left perimeter, but
so is the on / off
button and the 3.5 mm headphone jack, which means they're actually on the top when you hold the 8.9 horizontally.
Around the corner, on the right edge, is a
volume control
button for the built - in MP3 player,
so you can play music while you read.
So that's one
volume button for one function and either for another — it's way too complex.
But that puts the
Volume buttons in an awkward position on the top,
so «
Volume Up» is on the right, rather the top.
Its 3.5 mm headphone jack and power
button are on the top of the tablet when held in landscape mode, but
so are the
volume controls.
On the right hand side in portrait mode, you'll have
volume buttons, which are bulbously curved outwards
so you can easily feel for them without having to look for the
volume controls.
The screen lock
button sits on the top, slightly recessed,
so as not to be unlocked when you slip it into your pocket; the
volume controls sit on the right - hand side, with a shortcut «convenience» key moving from the middle towards the bottom.
When you hold it
so that the front - facing camera is on the top, along the top edge are a
volume rocker, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a USB 2.0 micro-USB port and a power
button, all of which are accessible through two deep openings in the case.
While this is surely safer it doesn't make for a great listening experience and as it's activated by holding the power and down
volume buttons together it's awkward to activate,
so we doubt it'll be used very much, if at all.
Like the Motorola Lapdock, the Transformer offers up shortcuts specific to its Android application,
so you not only get media,
volume and brightness controls, but you also get a lock
button, a back
button and shortcuts for the browser, camera and settings.
Our hands are already wrapped around our phones when we're holding them,
so putting
volume and power
buttons on the back, right where our fingers would naturally fall makes a lot of sense!
I think that the Power
button and
Volume buttons are a bit too recessed, but I've never heard anyone complain about this on other tablets,
so it should be fine.
Some reading apps and browsers allow you to use the
volume buttons to turn pages,
so that helps.
Both are placed ergonomically on the iPad and are nicely emphasized
so you can easily find them with your fingers: power
button on top,
volume buttons on the right top side, just next to the lock screen / mute latch.
Amazon also switched its power and
volume button placement this time around,
so that they sit near where your hands typically rest while holding it in landscape mode.
The TV remote didn't control
volume but there's
buttons on right side of the TV
so not a big deal.
The software also lets you swap between Dolby surround sound and DTS Headphone X surround sound, with separate
volume adjustments for every channel and a demo
button so you can test it out.
You'll also find four media control
buttons and a
volume wheel
so that you can quickly pause, stop, rewind, fast forward, turn up and turn down whatever your watching.
Players will also get a new option for speech
volume, the Totals menu will be sped up, cut scenes will be skippable, dialogue can be sped through by holding a
button and
so much more.
So TruNote is essentially a harmless, cool idea — if you don't like how it alters the sound, you can simply disable it by pressing both the
volume up and down
buttons.
This app can do a lot,
so the first thing you'll want to do is set the action for your
button (or
buttons if you're also programming the
volume keys).
The Discover is a proper Android 4.x smartphone,
so there are no hardware
buttons other than power and
volume.
I prefer the Shield
buttons, with the standard layout, to the ASUS with more tactile
buttons but the order flipped
so you often turn the power off instead of adjusting the
volume.
The Power and
Volume buttons stick out just enough to find without looking, though we wish Samsung didn't insist on putting them on opposite sides of the phone; it's
so easy to press one when trying to press the other.
The
volume rocker and power
button are easy to locate and press, and the power
button has a nice texture to it
so you can tell which
button is which.
Edifier also supplies a remote with on / off and
volume up / down
buttons,
so you don't need to get off your sofa to reach the stylishly integrated touch controls found on the left side of the primary speaker.
