Together, we worked out a plan on how to use
volunteer dog socializers to help these dogs in need.

We started by working with the
volunteer department to identify
volunteers who had been serving as
dog socializers for at least eight hours each month.
Over the years, her ASPCA
volunteer roles have included adoption counselor,
dog handler,
dog walker,
socializer and transporter.
Since then she has continued to put her passion into action by gathering signatures to help California pass Proposition 2, which improved the welfare of animals on factory farms, and she has been a therapeutic riding
volunteer, as well as a
dog socializer for local humane societies.
She fostered a brood (a female breeding
dog), raised two puppies as they trained to become service
dogs, and
volunteered as an early puppy
socializer at Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
We ask our
volunteers to commit to a 2 hour time slot each week, for at least 3 months (ex: every Monday from 1pm - 3 pm as a
dog socializer).
Volunteers must be able to make a time commitment of at least 4 hours per month, for a minimum of 6 months (with the exception of
dog and cat
socializer positions).
