Enemies are usually encountered by pretty much
walking into them, and while potion effects do last quite a while you can't actually guzzle them during combat, so taking them is a bit of a guessing game.
This feels like most horror games in that you're playing as a bunch of heroes tossed
into a typical creepy location where they have to fight off loads and loads of
enemies that stagger,
walk, shuffle and float toward you.
Occasionally you do get a chance to set up traps away from an
enemy and then engage them before luring them in, and it does feel awesome when you do that, but generally the only real way to use traps is to roll away from combat and quickly hit the button that causes Geralt to go about his business, but that sort of feels like cheating when the

The dodging / melee system is a awesome touch... especially if you want to be more lethal; you can

The flipside of making things more favourable to casual players - and the sheer abundance of gear you can buy from NPCs before missions or found dropped by

walking loot chest)- is that seeking out those elusive super rare guns feels far less exciting.
This even carried over to the gameplay; whereas in most games, touching an
enemy would harm you, Wario's villainous vibe allowed him to upend foes by simply

You feel like you have the upper hand when you
walk into an area where you are so obviously outnumbered, when there are 20
enemies because you know you have the ability to use a smoke pellet or freeze grenade to take some
enemies out of the game and continue on to kick some evil ass.
