Pleased to meet you I can definitely recommend Copenhagen as a compact,
walkable city if you like beautiful architecture, art and design, and good food.

If you're lucky enough to live in a
city that's
walkable or has an extensive public transit system, you might not need to own a car to get to work or the grocery store.
You'll have to decide whether suburban, but less
walkable, life appeals to you or
if you want to be in the
city.
If you're staying in Florence, the easiest way to get to Lucca is by train, from the
city's Santa Maria Novella station (which is
walkable from almost anywhere in central Florence).
And, to nobody's surprise,
if you compare it to Kenny's list of the most
walkable cities in the US, there is significant overlap; in terms of walkability, San Francisco was first, followed by New York and Boston.
Perhaps I am naive, but I keep thinking that
if we built
walkable and cyclable
cities out of radically efficient buildings, we wouldn't be having these problems.
