Since the living room will also act as our guest bedroom when we have overnight guests, I thought it might be cool to eat up the extra
wall space next to the
cabinets (
around the doorway opening) with curtains so folks can pull them shut if they want a little privacy at bedtime.
This light and spacious kitchen has
walls mercifully free of
wall cabinets, while metro tiles reflect light
around the room.
Remove the mirrors on the
wall & vanity — we removed a L - O - O - N - G low vanity in our tiny (only) bath and put in a vintage medicine
cabinet, lovely dark wood small vanity / sink, and a narrow ledge
around the
wall — gave us plenty of storage and the new paint, lighting, and art really defined the room.
The light colored

Instead of placing upper
cabinets all
around the
walls, I decided to place a stainless steel hood over the cooking range so to ad a more appealing and modern look to the space.

We (finally) removed it and swung it
around and out against the
wall (where your door is) and added a small glass

walls and floors and add a few glass fronted
cabinets and even mirrored splashbacks to reflect light
around the room.
I'm still playing
around with ideas for the zag part of this zig - zag kitchen, but other plans include painting
walls and
cabinets, changing the lighting and finding ways to create even more space.
The shelf above is sitting on a little lip that is attached to studs in the
wall and also on the side
cabinets, then we added a face frame
around it so you wouldn't see the gap / bolts / side supports.
Now you can add some fabric to the back
walls of the
cabinets so you can actually see your crystal, add a pop of color & design & be able to change it
around easily.
Take advantage of underused
wall space above and
around a bed to create storage - rich
cabinets, built - in nightstands, and display shelves.

Although my 1986 bathroom is probably quite a bit older than yours, I have no desire to spend thousands of dollars doing an update that will shout out «new» but that won't be in keeping with the country / cottage effect I want and that I think can easily be achieved by working
around my current pale yellow faux marble countertops by painting the oak
cabinets (as I plan to do in the kitchen) and the
walls and changing out sink and lighting fixtures.
