To assess variability, one needs to go farther back than
just the last 11 years, or the last 58 years (1950 was actually a very cold period with 1944 being very close to 2008
temps) or even the last 100 years (1878 was
warmer than today).
I
just looked it up and it has SH land
temps for Sep 08 as +0.44 C or 10th
warmest, well below Sep 05 at +0.85 C. (Of course, it has very limited Antarctic coverage, but then again I don't know how many more stations GISS takes into account.)
I
just wondered what annual global
temps would have been without Pinatubo and whether 1992 (or 1993) would have been the «
warmest year» rather than 1998.
Given that the other important variables (sea surface
temps, depth of the
warm layer, and atmospheric moisture) are all predicted to increase, it seems hard to make the claim that tropical cyclones will be unchanged,
just as it seemed unwise to claim that Lyman et al's «Recent cooling of the upper oceans» meant that climate models had fatal flaws.
In THE orbit the earth travels around the sun, the
temp is -93 C — that» cold vacuum» penetrates trough the upper troposphere and is canceling any heat — IF there is heat to neutralize — if not,
just zooms trough underutilized, and» new cold vacuum» moves trough every 10 minutes — because the planet travels at 108000kmh trough new» cold vacuum» all the time = the planet can not get
warmer than normal.»
I thought it would be something like that, although for a moment I thought Dr Vicki Pope from the Met Office was running a version of her old little graph of global
temps, which is aired every now & then, curiously stopped in 2007, demonstrating beyond a doubt the
warming going on as usual,
just before the 2008
temp step drop & further cooling in 09, so that the trend stayed positive!
«Glaciers in higher colder mountainous regions will be slower to melt even as
temps rise, the lower tundra areas will respond more quickly to such changes and this is shown by the quicker responses in tree line to the lesser
warming periods like the MWP at ground level further north from him, and not
just fossil remains but old farming settlements uncovered, and so on.»
The discussion I had recently about this had been irritating, so many examples in my research which showed the faked Hockey Stick cause was alive and well and now not
just eliminating the
warmer periods like the MWP and Roman, but taking it even further back and ludicrously even positing that
temps now were rising higher than at any time in the Holocene, but the 6/7, 000 year had been a first step to this, eliminating the Holocene Maximum by clever sleights of hand and word play.
As a Brit I was telling a visitor from Finland who was complaining at how cold it seemed even though she had felt
warmer at
temps down to -20 oC at home.I told her that Britain was damp, in the summer it was hot and damp, in the winter it was cold and damp and if it was neither hot or cold it was
just damp.
Just to let you know how stupid the global
warming activists are, I've been to the south pole 3 times and even there, where the water vapor is under 0.2 mm precipitable, it's still the H2O that is the main concern in our field and nobody even talks about CO2 because CO2 doesn't absorb or radiate in the portion of the spectrum corresponding with earth's surface
temps of 220 to 320 K. Not at all.
There is a temperature gradient caused by atmospheric radiations —
warm air rises, expands and cools in lower pressure at height — but this is
just the lapse rate and doesn't create cooler
temps at height.

just another, in a long list of stations that have had the

Just reminds me of the climate gate email that is not often discussed where someone (I do nt recall who off hand) notes its good that the skeptics at least have not yet made a point yet about the discrepancy between land and ocean
temps, as the land should follow the sea and can not
warm at a faster rate for any physical reason.
