An analysis using updated global surface temperature data disputes the existence of a 21st century global
warming slowdown described in studies including the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assessment.

«What this study addresses is what's better
described as a false pause, or
slowdown,» rather than a hiatus in
warming, says climate scientist Michael Mann of Pennsylvania State University, University Park.
In an interview with me last year another of the authors, Prof Michael Mann,
described the period of an alleged
slowdown as the «faux pause», saying that «global
warming hasn't stopped, even though you still hear those contrarian talking points.»
Using the New Karl, or better
described as the ERSST v4, temperature series does indeed make the hiatus go away but not the significant
slowdown in
warming from the period 1976 - 1999 to the period 2000 - 2014.
That would mean that future
warming will be much worse than
described in the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (which took the
slowdown into account when making its projections).
