If you just listened to the headlines, you would think that 2014
was a great year for investors.
Overall 2016
was a great year for investors, particularly in US stocks, and should serve as an excellent reminder of how difficult it can be to predict market outcomes.

With 2015 shaping up as the worst
year for investing since the
Great Recession,
investors are wondering where to turn.
For a few companies and
investors, though, it
was a
great year.
For example, in the hardware space, a
year ago, $ 1M in pre-sales on Kickstarter with a
great product idea
was sometimes enough to raise a Series A. Now,
investors are demanding pre-sales in the millions with a product that
's either functional or actually in production given the risk of bringing hardware to market.

be clear from the bubbles of recent
years, the

are depressed, the economy

In the current market,
