This work provides guidance to governments, local authorities, businesses and others on designing effective food
waste prevention programmes.

FAO collaborates with the public sector, the private sector and civil society to develop and implement food loss and
waste prevention and reduction solutions through: i) Advocacy and awareness raising; ii) Collaboration and coordination of world - wide initiatives on food loss and
waste reduction; iii) Research to evidence for policy, strategy, legislation and standards development; iv) Support to investment
programmes and projects.
The report furthermore provides lessons learned from the case studies for sustainable development of CRFS and offers a large number of strategies and tools that can be applied by city regions around the world, including the promotion of (peri) urban agriculture, preservation of agricultural land areas and watersheds through land use planning and zoning, development of food distribution and social protection
