Let the
grains drip out most of the
water and then reuse it to make new
kefir by pouring new milk
on it.
Milk
kefir grains grow
on real milk, and
water kefir grains grow
on sugar and
water.
So go ahead and do all your experiments, including putting milk
kefir grains into sugar
water and
water kefir grains into milk or anything else but understand that they will not grow
on these other mediums.
@Sansan — My suggestion is to make milk
kefir first with your
grains, then after you've made your
grains multiply, take a few and try using them
on the
water kefir recipe.

I just bought these
kefir grains about 2 weeks ago and am
on my 3rd batch of
water kefir!
1 1/2 cups coconut
water (optional: «ferment» it overnight
on the counter with
water kefir grains, strain it, and put new coconut
water in for tomorrow)
The
grains are really easy to use and I'm so glad I started
on water kefir.
These
water kefir grains seemed to be working well but I let them sit
on the counter in a bowl of sugar
water with lemon for days I just got busy and forgot about them and I killed them.
2) Apparently I am not the best
water kefir grain mama and I brew a little
on the long side (twice now), which can negatively affect the
grains.
