Now both of my hounds and the Chesapeake Bay
retriever have pretty much mastered the waterer (the Chesapeake still tends to go for the dish most of the time though, possibly
because he gets his
water faster that way) but the Australian Shepherd / Beagle cross still hasn't a clue.

because of the quality of their coat that repels
water in some measure.
