«It is also the first study to show
water temperatures close to the ocean's surface can reach 40 °C — a near - lethal value at which marine life dies and photosynthesis stops.

The researchers note that in such a thin layer, the

water temperatures range from 78 - 82 ° F. Reefs begin
close to shore and slope to depths of more than 130 feet.
These three climate phenomena have produced the uniquely long - lasting surge in
water temperature that is attracting tuna and other fish much
closer to shore — and much farther north than they would normally swim, said Toby Garfield, director of the environmental research division at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Southwest Fisheries Science Center in La Jolla.

WRT
water vapor amplification, I suspect that the basic (radiative only) amplifying effect of
water vapor, which is something less than a factor of 2 over the CO2 - only effect of ~ 1.2 C, IIRC, will be
close to the same across a range of average surface
temperatures.
Mainly this is because these areas are relatively
close to both open
water and the ice sheet and that keeps
temperatures pretty stable.
In fact, as the atmosphere warms, the «atmospheric window» tends toward
closing (particularly because of
water vapor effects), and excess escape through this window can't account quantitatively for the reduction in stratospheric
temperatures.
The land model would have a value
close to 5.35, the oceans
close to 1.5 and the Antarctic, really any area with virtually no
water and lower than -30 C
temperatures, would be slightly negative.

water temperatures (BWTs)
close to modern
temperatures.
The second thing that must occur; after the
water Temperature stalls at 273.15 Kelvins, is that 80 calories per gram of
water, must be removed to some colder heat sink, again per the second law, and only after that heat energy, is sucked out of the
water by a continuous thermal chain of ever cooler thermally conductive media, to some far cooler place, can the liquid
water molecules
close in on each other as the
water turns to ice.
Lake Superior surface
temperature was 41 F, pretty
close to the 40 F
temperature water column equilibrium allowing more surface freezing; although, Lake Superior being so much larger and deeper having a lot more heat energy stored, usually slower to freeze over completely.
There is contamination of the air in the bubble by
water; different results are obtained if the ice is crushed or melted to obtain the air sample; it takes decades for the air bubble to form; the raw data was smoothed out by a 70 year moving average that removed the great annual variability found in the 19th century and Stomata Index (SI) records;
closer examination revealed a major flaw in the hypothesis because
temperature rises before CO2.
These stem from a diversity of site - specific conditions, including, but not limited to: local vegetation; presence of building structures and contributions made by such structures involving energy use, heating and air conditioning, etc; exposure to winds, the wind velocities determined by climatic factors and also whether certain wind directions are more favored than others by terrain or the presence or absence thereof to bodies of
water; proximity to grass, asphalt, concrete or other material surfaces; the physical conditions of the CRS itself which include: the exact location of the
temperature sensors within it, the degree of unimpeded flow of external air through the CRS, the character of the paint used; the exact height of the instrument above the external surface (noting that when the ground is covered by 3 feet of snow, the
temperature instrument is about 60 %
closer to, or less than 2 feet, above an excellent radiating surface, much
closer than it would be under snow - free conditions).
But even if the ocean was just very cold but not frozen that still means the air was
close to freezing at sea level and wouldn't be able to hold much
water vapor due to low
temperature.
If all Joules contribute equally, then each of the 240 W / m ^ 2 of accumulated forcing must also contributes 4.3 W / m ^ 2 to surface emissions adding up to over 1000 W / m ^ 2 corresponding to an average surface
temperature close to the boiling point of
water.
