I don't know what's «industry standard practice» for fine art galleries these days, regarding pricing
works on paper vs.
works on canvas, but my suspicion is that the reason for the * historical * difference between the two is that
works on paper are perceived to be less «serious» (after all,
watercolor started out as a quick way for oil painters to sketch out drafts), and less long - lasting (historically, a lot of
watercolors were fugitive, and tended to fade with time, unlike varnished oil
paintings).
More than 20 large - scale oil
paintings will be on view alongside 50 never - before - exhibited
works from the 1930s, which show the artist
working in
watercolor and gouache on paper.
Along with selected
works by Toni Tully, including
watercolors, fabric, and
paintings, the show will feature
works by her daughter, Rebecca Tully Fulmer, as well as the following prominent artists who had close professional relationships with Tully: Sara Garden Armstrong, Catherine Cabaniss, Carol Cooper, Carolyn Goldsmith, Beverly Erdreich, Scott Fuller, Betty Kent (deceased), Scott Stephens, Cumbee Tyndal, Ellen de Mello Weiland (deceased), and Maralyn Wilson.

The show includes early
works in oil,
watercolor, gouache and ink; Abstract Expressionist
paintings done in California; and «Untitled (Horse and Rider)» (1954), considered one of his first mature figurative
paintings.
Wintersnow Snowinters signals Snow's first
painting show in some two decades, so several earlier
watercolor works (like Sleeping vs Waking) reappear here as fully - formed oil on panel compositions.
The surfaces of these wooden
works are variously inscribed with
watercolor, enamel, and acrylic
paint, lacquer, oil, colored pencil, and graphite — materials that they share with the drawings that trace the evolution of individual pieces.
