We reprocess the data after removing the oscillatory component, defined by the 50 - to 90 - y
wavelet band, the AMO.
In our 2005 paper we present a way based on
wavelet band - passed filtered signals, but we also referenced other two works: one by Douglass and Clader (2002) and another one by White et al. (1997).

A
wavelet analysis reveals changes in relative domains of variability over time, with a higher concentration of power in the interannual and decadal
bands during the LIA that is much subdued during the MCA (Fig 4D).
To show the detailed characteristics of each spectral
band based on the
wavelet analysis of the driving force output, the time - averaged power spectrum of the driving forces is shown in Fig. 3.
The least - squares linear trend and its upper and lower 95 % confidence limits are taken out, separately, from the central part of each synthetic time series, to account for the influence of the regression errors in the
wavelet analysis, and then added back after
band pass of the
wavelet modes.
The time series was first linearly detrended, and a modulated annual cycle of an average period of 1 y was removed in the
wavelet 9 - to 15 - mo
band (the second mode in Fig.
The original time series can be reconstructed from the
wavelet transform and divided into several frequency
bands (13)(Fig.
An ideal validation procedure would measure skill at different timescales, or in different frequency
bands using
wavelet or power spectrum calculations.
