If you want a white washed look you can add a white
wax over the wood.

I began to attend a small Episcopal church in San Antonio on my lunch breaks, for Eucharist, and fell head
over heels in love with it, right down to the smell of
waxed wood and candles.
Carnauba is a VERY hard
wax so you have to use a lower percentage than the other two but let me tell you that my
wax lasts a very LONG time on my painted pieces being made out of
wood or upholstery (I do apply the
wax over fabric).
I also used Miss Mustard Seed Antiquing
wax - fairly generously
over the
wood parts and a teeny tiny bit on the arms where they would have gotten dirty.
I also made the decision to leave the geometric appliques on the front of the drawers in their natural sanded state, sans paint, and then just apply the liming
wax over the raw
wood.

woods, milk paints, or other water based latex type paints?
