Most authors still try the traditional route of getting a literary
agent, then a publisher
for their masterpiece, and there is no denying this is still probably the best
way to advance your writing career (especially if you can pick up a nice three book deal from you
new publisher!).
But
agents and editors alike are looking
for something
new and fresh and exciting, something we haven't read before that makes us look at the world in a
new way.
You'll have some help along the
way, from your
agent and the publisher, but there's not a lot of money
for them to spend promoting a
new author especially.
I think
agents can become a powerful, impresarial force
