Those most similar to class M stars have strong ZrO
absorption bands analogous to the TiO bands of class M stars, whereas those most similar to carbon stars have strong sodium D
lines and
weak C2 bands.
O2 and N2 do have very
weak absorption / emission
lines in the LWIR range.
CO2 has a main
absorption band near 15 um (about wavenumber 667) that includes a strong
absorption line at that wavelength with correspondingly
weaker lines as one moves into the «wings» toward either 13 or 17 um.
