It also seems that the company will be showing at least one new
wearable device too.
Not exact matches
Wearables seem to be the most promising new consumer technology, even as some analysts argue that margins for the ultra-portable
devices are
too thin for Apple's taste.
All of it is
too uncertain right now, but is being likened to a smart
wearable device rumored to appear due to several Nokia products being leaked.
But if there's a trend that seems to be emerging in
wearables for CES 2018, based on early reporting and pitches we've received, it's health: legitimate medical
devices, not - yet - approved medical
devices, and likely some
devices that make bogus claims,
too.
However, the Android Wear
device is not Fossil's only smart
wearable piece of technology: there's another connected watch, which does not appear to run Android Wear, plus a connected bracelet
too.
Other companies didn't want to stay away from all this, as we saw Sony
too jumped into the
wearable tech category, announcing the Sony SmartBand, a wristband which would have a Sony Core tracker
device, keeping the log of your fitness and activity.
Even Apple let it be known that there's a «Healthbook» App on the way which could strongly suggests that there could be a
wearable device on their roadmap in the not
too distant future.
But they won't be the last — smartwatches obviously have a role here,
too, but then so do cars, future
wearables, and many other
devices not yet conceived of.
The Misfit app is designed to connect to the firm's various
wearable health monitors and third - party
devices from the likes of Swarovski and Speedo, but it's a useful Watch app in its own right
too even if you don't have any other
wearable devices.
But, Sony's
wearable boasts a few stand - out benefits over each, and at that, most of the Android Wear
device portfolio available today,
too.
Sure, Google has turned out the Glass
wearable device, but lots of other companies, like OnBeep or Vuzix, have been working on
wearables,
too.
Samsung is also trying to avoid giving Google
too much power as the world's largest Internet search provider develops a version of Android for
wearable devices.
The LG G Watch is the South Korean firm's first attempt at an Android Wear
device, as Google looks to tackle the
wearable space head on before it sprouts
too many disjointed frameworks and ecosystems.
Keep in mind Apple, which dominates the smartwatch market with its Apple Watch, has doubled - down on pitching the
wearable as a fitness
device, so it make sense that Samsung would do that,
too.
The iMarket share obviously plunged
too, from 20.3 to 7 percent, and after single - handedly raising the profile of smartwatches, this aging bad boy took «smart
wearables», i.e.
devices that support third party applications, down with it.
The method can be used with other
wearables,
too, like Android Wear
devices, Garmin watches and Fitbits with heart - rate monitors.
There are other obstacles to consider
too, like getting people to actually wear a
device on a consistent basis — something that Fitbit, and most other
wearable makers, have struggled with in the past.
Alcatel certainly knows what a proper
wearable device is - the company's BOOMBand fitness tracker proves that - but it's also hoping you'll believe its justifications why strapping a small smartphone to your arm can be considered «
wearable tech»
too.
«We believe the price point may prove to be
too high for a
device that will not offer access to third - party apps, unlike other smartwatches,» Angelo Zino, an analyst of S&P Capital IQ, says, hinting that it would be better for Fitbit to bank on the wellness aspect instead of trying to take its
wearable tech up a notch.
Challenges with
wearable tech abound, from harnessing enough computing power onto ultrathin
devices like pieces of tape to persuading average consumers to wear silly - looking glasses and bulky watches without «nerding them out»
too much.
