webOS as a
platform is currently kept alive by LG, who purchased the
platform from HP in 2013 to develop into its own software
platform and has so far used it to develop a critically lauded smart TV
platform before shifting development to a possible
wearables platform in the vein of Samsung's Tizen with a rumored
webOS - powered smartwatch.
In addition to the standard Android Wear version, LG has developed an LTE - capable version based upon its own «LG
Wearable Platform» software, which is based upon
webOS.
LG hasn't said much about the
platform, but we overheard some discussion that the LG Wearable Platform started with WebOS and
platform, but we overheard some discussion that the LG
Wearable Platform started with WebOS and
Platform started with
WebOS and evolved.
This circular smartwatch uses LG's own
wearable platform, based partly on the
webOS platform the South Korean brand acquired in 2013.
Firstly, it's not running Android Wear but its own
wearable platform based on
webOS, the OS LG bought up from HP in 2013.
Perhaps the more interesting of the two products is the new LG Watch Urbane LTE, a device built upon the new LG
Wearable Platform, a derivative of
webOS that the company has altered to suit the wrist.
While the Watch Urbane itself is an Android Wear model, the LTE edition runs the «LG
Wearable Platform,» which, as it happens, is none other than our old friend
webOS at its core.
