This article reports the results of two related studies that investigated the effects of a 10 -
week reading intervention program in which culturally relevant texts were used for instruction on urban African American children's reading achievement.

Reading Recovery found quite large short - run impacts of the
program at scale (0.3 - 0.4 standard deviation improvement from participation in the 12 - 20
week intervention).
This outcome study sought to provide preliminary data on the effectiveness of two
interventions for couples, comparing the self - help book Hold Me Tight: Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love, to the 8 -
week relationship course, The Hold Me Tight
Program: Conversations for Connection, which includes
reading the book at home.
