looking to bounce back and boost morale this
weekend after what happened to them late
on in the game against Queens Park Rangers
on Wednesday night, as Ciaran Clark provided QPR with a
point through a rather spectacular own goal in the dying moments of the match.
Obviously there are other factors such as field position, who has the ball, and public perception that can influence these in - game lines, but these tables are a good starting
point to
look at if you want to bet
on some exciting fourth quarter comebacks this
weekend.
Manchester City are
looking to close the gap
on Premier League leaders Chelsea this
weekend, and will want nothing less than all three
points from their clash with Newcastle United.
The Red Devils face Sheffield United in the FA Cup this
weekend, before returning to Premier League action against Newcastle United
on January 12 as they
look to try and close the nine -
point gap that exists between them and leaders Arsenal.
In Serie A, Montella's side are currently fifth with 39
points, six
points behind third - placed Napoli, who occupy the final Champions League spot, and will
look to close the gap starting this
weekend as they take
on underachieving Inter Milan at the San Siro.
First of all I would like to say that I think Arsenal will come away from Vicarage Road next
weekend with all three
points, especially as the team should
look a lot more like the Arsenal we are used to, with Olivier Giroud leading the attack and Mesut Ozil doing what he does best in the number 10 position, but there will be a lot more pressure
on the players to beat Watford than is ideal.
Manchester City will
look to get back
on track after a disappointing week which saw them throw a two - goal lead at CSKA Moscow in the Champions League and lose to West Ham over the
weekend, sending them 6
points off leaders Chelsea at this early stage in the Premier League.
West Brom
on the other hand find themselves bottom of the table and three
points is what Alan Pardew will be
looking for this
weekend.
Leading the table by just one
point ahead of the
weekend fixture, Watford
looking comfortable as they went one goal up
on 25 minutes through Matej Vydra.
The Premier League
weekend finishes
on Monday with Manchester United
looking to close the gap at the top to 12 -
points.
Team News & Lineups: Chelsea drew 0 - 0 at Goddison park over the last
weekend and they will be
looking to bounce back with an emphatic performance which will put them level
on points with Manchester United and take them further away from the chasing pack for top four race.
Liverpool will be
looking to maintain their top four spot at the end of the
weekend with three
points at Southampton
on Sunday.
They battled out a 1 - 1 draw at Anfield against Liverpool over the
weekend to keep their good unbeaten streak of form going and with Swansea
looking all out of sorts and lacking any kind of quality, there are a good three
points on offer for the reigning Champions here.
Having been denied an excellent victory by a last gasp penalty at Leicester last
weekend, Middlesbrough will be
looking to secure an elusive three
points as they welcome Hull
on Monday evening.
They've
looked a real mess, and Liverpool took advantage of that last
weekend with a comfortable 3 - 0 victory, which included Joey Barton's needless two - footed tackle in the corner
on Xabi Alonso that got him sent off and was the main talking
point around Newcastle this
weekend.
After Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke and Borussia Mönchengladbach all failed to pick up three
points this
weekend, Dortmund's chance to go second
on the table
looked like being the focus of this one.
Meanwhile, Manchester United sit level with them
on 16
points, and they'll be
looking to take advantage of this huge meeting at the
weekend.
They will now take
on familiar foes Stoke City this
weekend and we
