Though there is some
weight loss for many (and even significant amounts for others), many of my
clients don't lose as much as they would like to (perhaps because it's so hard to strictly adhere to it).
I've never met a person who was disappointed they got up and
did a workout but I have met plenty who were disappointed when they didn't, and that is the motivation I get
clients to use to keep coming back, not just focus on a
weight loss number or whatever it may be.»
This is possibly the most important thing
weight loss coaches can
do for their
clients.
Very rarely
do I get as granular as giving specific days for specific body parts as most of my
clients come to me for body recomp and / or
weight loss and I just don't think that granularity is necessary.
I don't like to focus on perimenopause
weight loss with my
clients, simply because I believe there are far more important things to worry about when it comes to our health and frankly, our lives.
Besides the amazing food we eat (it's a no starve zone — really, we don't «diet»), the self - care practices that are part of the programs, no matter how small, soon become something my
clients just «
do», and the benefits for the entire family are truly amazing, from
weight loss to kicking cravings to a happier household.
As personal trainers, we don't always look beyond the physical aspect, instead, we expect
weight loss to be a simple process of hardcore gym sessions and reducing calories or implementing portion controls for ourselves and our
clients.
I often work with
clients who list
weight loss, bone density, energy, or knowing what to
do as their top goals.
I
do recommend
weight loss clients to work on building muscle strength (even if it actually adds a bit of extra
weight) because their metabolic rate will increase.
In discussion with my endocrinologist, I knew she supported carbs at 10 % or less of my intake so I calculated my needs based on my gender, height,
weight, activity level and
weight loss goal — just as I
do for my
clients, and then figured out how many grams of carbs I could have in a day at this level.
Many of our
weight loss consultants were
clients first, and all of our managers have
done the program.
Don't get me wrong there are personal trainers that are in fantastic shape that are genuinely interested in helping their
clients to achieve their
weight loss and fitness goals.

clients are excited to change and
do not allow their fears of change to stop them from moving forward.
Likewise, I
do NOT recommend unregulated ketogenic diets to my
weight loss clients, but carb cycling and even ketogenic diets work very well for someone who is already at a healthy
weight looking to temporarily lower their body fat for a photo shoot, competition or similar event.
As for juice fasting working because of calorie restriction, my issue is that the only effective, successful
weight loss regimen is one that is a lifestyle change, and that is only possible when the
client is being taught WHY they are
doing what they
do.
Juice fasting doesn't make it apparent that calorie restriction is responsible for the
weight loss, it's supposed to be some magic mumbo jumbo and I hate that because it causes yo - yo dieting due to the
client having no clue why they're losing
weight, other than some misinformed idea that they are «detoxing.»
I don't
do traditional
weight loss / diet prescribing because the research (and hundreds of my
clients» experiences) clearly shows that it is not effective.
Before I go on please note that I can ONLY speak for the results of the permanent
weight loss coaching that I
do with my coaching
clients.
