I've tried
high fat low
carb (and also the reverse) and find that I do
best on a
diet that contains a moderate amount of both fat and
carbs — although it would probably be considered lower
carb compared to standard western
diet.
I made a temporary switch to a very low fat
diet for a month and my TC dropped to 198, LDL 127, HDL 56, trigs 47, glu 91 (glu dropped
on a
high carb diet) lipid-wise, my bad got
better, but my
good got worse, my ratios went from all
good or borderline to all
good with one
high risk (apob / apoa) Here is the kicker: my inflammation markers skyrocketed from «borderline» to
high risk.
People with
higher body fat tend to do
better on higher fat / lower
carb diets because of their lower insulin sensitivity.
The reason your friend is doing
well on a low
carb high fat
diet is because it's never a
good idea to flood insulin in your system regardless of whether you have to inject it or not.
You're probably
well aware that foods
high in sugar — such as cookies, candy and cake — are off - limits
on a low -
carb diet.
On a very low -
carb diet, it's probably a
good idea to avoid some fruits, especially sweet fruits and dried fruits, which have
high carb counts:
Your fat intake should be around 0.35 to 0.5 grams per pound of bodyweight depending
on how
well your body can handle
higher carb diets.
As a T2DM, I do
better on a LCHF (Atkins - like)
diet vs a
high fiber,
high carb, low fat (Pritikin - like)
diet.
However, if you're counting
carbs to manage blood sugars, limiting
carbs on your low -
carb diet or simply trying to lose weight, it's
good to know which veggies are
higher in
carbs.
