Whether you're
on a Paleo, vegan, vegetarian, pescetarian, slow - carb, low - carb or Mediterranean
diet, every single healthy nutritional protocol
on the planet shares one common theme: getting more whole,
plant -
based foods into your
diet is a
good thing for your health and the planet.
I find I feel
better and more equipped for these days if I incorporate
plant -
based protein or locally sourced meat into my
diet, depending
on what I crave.
The shift from ketosis (hardly mentioned today
on the Atkins
diet) to net carbs allowed more vegetables and other
plant -
based carbohydrates into the plan (
good) but also opened the floodgates for low - carb processed junk foods (not
good).
While we're not big
on diets in the traditional sense, we do talk about one type of
diet quite a bit: the
plant -
based diet, arguably the
best diet of all.
For instance, if you are in the initial transition phases of switching to a high - carbohydrate,
plant -
based diet and are experiencing spikes in your blood glucose after eating starch - heavy or fruit - heavy meals, it may be
best to focus
on leafy greens, legumes, and non-starchy vegetables until your blood glucose control improves.

good news is you are already doing a lot to protect your health by eating a mostly
plant -
based diet and you can definitely pick up many more useful tips for optimizing your

Even
on a
well designed
plant based diet, it seems virtually impossible to completely eliminate saturated fat intake since beneficial
plant foods like nuts and seeds also contain some saturated fat.

It is strongly implied, if not clearly stated, those eating a healthy whole
plant -
based diet can reach below 70 without really trying... I doubt there are 100 people
on the planet that follow the recommended
diet in «How Not To Die»
better than I do.
We are still working out the kinks in how to feed both of us and give ourselves all the protein we need (see my blog post
on how to get enough protein from a
plant -
based diet) as
well as essential vitamins.
Sometimes a WFPB (whole food
plant based)
diet works so
well so quickly, that staying
on meds can result in a dangerous situation.
Well, I went
on a strict
plant -
based diet w / exercise, my cholesterol, glycemic numbers went down, but triglycerides went way up... (also had bloating / gas / heartburn / gastro disorders)??? My breakfast was made of a bowl of regular oats w / grapefruit, lunch steamed veggies w / garlic / onion, diner brown rice w / red beans, and had 3 green apples as daily snacks w / nuts.
I follow a low carb
diet and it has helped me drop a lot of my visceral fat, I am a pescatarian eating salmon maybe 1 - 2 days a week max the rest of the time I am
on a vegan
diet (excluding breads and grains) I also do not consume sugar and reduce fruit to 2 - 3 servings, I consume slow carbs as beans but always at night when your body can tolerate carbs
better, and I eat tons of greens I supplement with algea oil, B12, and Magnesium I do bulletproof coffee (with coconut oil) no butter and intermittent fast and eat in a 7 hour window, I just wish Dr Greger could do a video
on the effects of a low carb, 95 %
plant based diet.
It's almost assured (especially
based on today's video), that the more your
diet shifts to a
plant -
based whole foods
diet, the
better your A1C will get.
My view of a healthy balanced
diet is: a
diet that is non processed,
based on plants, free of gluten (and any processed grains), low in dairy (or
better yet, free of dairy).
Focus
on a
plant -
based diet (veggies and fruits are your microbiome's food of choice) with
good amounts of the following (more than half your plate should be veggies of all kinds):

I was put
on medication and after going vegan, eating a whole foods
plant based diet with lots of raw kale, raw broccoli, etc. (as
well as cooked kale, broccoli, etc.), I was able to get off thyroid meds:)

Needless to say, now I am back
on a
plant based diet for
good — it was a no - brainer.
I have been
on a
plant based diet (no animal products at all) for a year now and have found this to be the
best way for me to eat and it's given me my
best body ever, but I understand that is not for everyone.
Other speakers discussed how soy products will help meet U.S. dietary guidelines, with its renewed emphasis
on plant -
based diets; noted that the soy industry is working
on production of novel varieties of high oleic soybean oil low in saturated fat; stressed the marketing of soy as a complete protein, perfectly appropriate as the only protein source for infants, children and adults; promoted the use of «stealth health» as opposed to «muscling» in change to force dietary changes (that is, sneak soy into common food products); speculated
on how to remove the allergens from soy; and figure out what to do about the fact that soy doesn't actually taste very
good.
