If
what I believe about Love doesn't find a roost here
in my regular and ordinary and unremarkable life where I learn and
practice what Eugene Peterson called «the biggest nouns and verbs,» then I have no right to those words
in moments of transformation and
change and importance.
The
practice constituted by rights to private liberties may not be violated and, further, rebellion is bound by something like the following principle: Extra-legal attempts to establish
what one takes to be the substantive conditions of a full and free discourse are not permitted unless the
changes are more likely to occur or to occur more quickly
in this manner than through legal activity, and the democratic political process is likely to sustain the
changes once they are made.
People say things like «God never
changes» but his methods of engaging with humanity have certainly
changed, from the extreme of the Levitical law with all its focus on foods, hygiene etc, to the point where we now have 2 laws — loving God and loving others, and the example of Jesus to show us
what that means
in practice.
Evangelism
in the U.S. today, as
practiced by the denominations, is a very different thing from
what it has been
in the past — and it is constantly
changing.
Credit for, and encourage the
practice of
what it did best
in the early days — help people to find God, to
change and correct their lives, and carry a message of deliverance to those still suffering.
The deep
changes in marriage
practices and attitudes make it imperative to develop a more effective methodology and program to help couples find
what they want and need.

what might best be called «theology of culture,» theological reflection on critical implications of cultural
change for congregations»
practices, and it calls for envisioning possible constructive reshaping of a congregation's
