I have been struck by the lack of attention paid to the topic of what's best for readers, in the blogs themselves and in the comments.
So focus on «what's best for Readers».
However, I like his stance of being concerned with what's good for readers vs the publishing business.
Instead I'm asking
what is better for the reader and the author, of which I am both.
If Publishers focus on what's best for readers they end up making it easier for casual readers — easier for them to get into reading, easier for them to become dedicated readers, and easier for them to actually buy the books they are thinking of reading.
