So instead, communities have to use tax dollars, a couple of grand each time probably, to put big honking electric signs with wireless controls
on traffic guards to tell drivers to do
what they are legally obligated to do, which is
keep their eyes
on the
road and not run over pedestrians.
We had to ride south
on Avenue
Road,
keeping as close to the curb as possible
on one of the busiest streets in town in the middle of rush hour, wondering
what kind of governments hypocritically promote cycling and then neglect to provide any decent routes; that refuse to demand sideguards
on trucks like they do in the UK; that refuse to enforce the few rules about parking or driving in bike lanes; and that refuse to ban cell phone use while driving when 80 % of accidents are caused by inattention of drivers.
It's not quite clear
what those restrictions will be, but I can guess that maybe they would prevent the Autopilot from even being turned
on on more types of
roads, and maybe enforce better the «
keep your hands
on the wheel» rule via sensors.
There is no guarantee that you can completely prevent all of the problems that occur
on the
roads during the holidays, but if you understand exactly
what types of threats are looming around the corner you can stay more cautious, and
keep everyone safe in case someone else is driving poorly.
