Lately, everyone from President Barack Obama to Shakira and Angela Bassett has been encouraging people to «learn to
code,» which begs the question:
What kind of learning environment is right for you?
No, they sit down and plan
what kind of building they need,
what it will be used for,
what the budget is,
what the
codes are, and how it will be safe for the people who use it.
Like some
kind of binding moral
code that tells us
what is right and wrong and maybe has some incentives for choosing
what's best?

Finally, we've seen
what kind of computer

kind of «who you are» (biometric) or «

The pragmatist perspective is the most compelling to me, in the similar vein to the conversations you and I have been having on this podcast about tech competence, which is,
coding is a part
of the future that is happening, and therefore having some minimal, reasonable understanding
of it just so you know
what's going on in the world, I find that moderately compelling, which, again, doesn't mean you need to build software, but it might mean you need to understand conceptually
what the difference between front end, and back end, and SQL, and Ruby, and these things are, but really at a basic, bare competence level, and even then it's
kind of a «maybe» in my mind.
For instance, one might expect comments: 1) identifying ethical problems in legal scholarship that are given too little attention; 2) identifying the most important or urgent ethical problems in legal scholarship, even if they are already given attention; 3) asking questions about the definition
of «scholarship» or «legal scholarship,»
what counts as legal scholarship, and
what kinds of norms, if any, should apply to writing by law professors as law professors but outside scholarly forums, such as tweets, blog posts, «law professors» letters,» op - eds, and so on; 4) proposing specific ethical norms for legal scholarship, especially those that might, as it were, be part
of a Restatement or
code of the ethics
of legal scholarship; and 5) raising general questions, positive or critical, about
what the conference should try to achieve or whether it is possible to achieve anything at all.
