The overall feature looks like a fun gimmick, though we're unimpressed by the cheap -
feeling plastic Porsche uses for the
controls — some video game steering
wheels feature better quality switches and buttons.
Over very rough surfaces at speed the
wheels don't
feel especially well
controlled, especially on the inside unloaded ones when cornering.
Alternatively you can take
control yourself via the two paddles behind the steering
wheel, which are smaller and nicer -
feeling than those of the standard 911.
Body
control is good too, and when combined with another of the A8's technical features, all -
wheel steering, gives the A8 a surprisingly agile
feel.
As the car darts from side to side, it
feels incredibly rigid and its body
control is excellent, the nose flicking immediately and obediently in tune with every twirl of the
wheel.
The damping doesn't
feel quite as
controlled as it could, the
wheels occasionally hopping and skipping over a rapid series of bumps, while over crests the body momentarily floats, the steering lightens and you
feel, just for a second, that you don't know quite what the car is doing.
