when people choose instead to adopt

«Puppy
mills» get the most press, most often
when a local humane organization (usually in Missouri, Kansas, or Pennsylvania) raids one and
rescues the suffering
dogs.
Of course, you can think you know everything there is to know about
dogs and how they think and feel, just because you grew up with them — and then end up adopting a breed new to you or an abused
rescue or puppy
mill dog... even a senior
dog when you've never had one before!
When Daisy first came into
rescue in early January, from a puppy -
mill rescue had previously taken other
dogs, she was very pregnant, sick, grungy, dirty, vomiting up everything, and suffering extreme diarrhea.
Finding forever homes for
mill rescues is not all we do; we are constantly reminded of the horrors of puppy
mills and the commercialization / farming of
dogs when we see the neglect and abuse these
dogs have suffered.

mills, it's all too common that they suffer from paralysis, have a cleft palate or an overly large underbite, among other things, but that of course, doesn't mean they aren't deserving of love.
When we see older female
dogs arriving in to
rescue who haven't been spayed until later in life, after multiple litters of puppies and / or from a puppy
mill type situation, there is a much greater likelihood that they may have mammary (or other) tumors compared to those who were fixed at a young age.
