My understanding is that in order to be food - based, only 5 % of the vitamins have to be food - based,
whereas whole food vitamins (MegaFood and New Chapter are the only ones I know of) must be 100 % based on food.
The critical difference of «high - fat diets» from chow is that they are composed of purified nutrients — starch, sugar, oil,
vitamins, and minerals —
whereas chow is composed of natural
whole foods such as wheat, corn, and seeds.
