But being dogmatic
about it doesn't help -

books you love because Hachette is
publishing them, or buying a dozen paperbacks you'll never read because Hachette is
publishing them.
It's
about what publishers do or don't do in marketing and also has some links within it to other specific Jane Friedman posts of a very helpful sort if you're trying to figure out how to make
books sell,
whether big press, small press or self
published.
In the past, publishers have usually been more concerned with their own brand but now they're beginning to realize that readers care more
about author's identity and personality, than they do
about who the publisher is, or
whether a
book is commercially or self -
published.
Reality check: Be aware that merely having your press release posted with a newswire service — regardless of the service level, and

publishing company posts it with a newswire — will not guarantee that news

As far as writing a good
book goes there are lots of opinions
about whether indie or traditionally
published authors are doing better in this regard.
In fact, I've recently been questioned twice
about whether a newbie with NO
book on the
publishing horizon should bother to start working on a platform and more specifically on an author website.
Writers fret
about deadlines, the quality of their work, if they'll

whether readers will buy their
books, or if they'll earn income.
This was my first year at the Frankfurt
Book Fair, the annual trade show that brings over 200,000
publishing professionals to Germany, so I can't say
whether the event had more of a digital focus than in years past — but I assume that it did, because there was plenty of news
about ebooks and digital
publishing coming out of the fair.
Look out for channels that feature regular interviews with upcoming self -
published authors so you have a good idea upfront

A lot of us worry
about quality of
books in the self -
publishing arena; could you break down what you foresee the editor's role will look like in a few years, if you think they will freelance, and
whether the world will come back around to trying to guarantee that e-
books available for sale will, if nothing else, have proper grammar and sentence structure and punctuation?
It's unethical to lie
