He did not measure himself by the cultural standards of his day, as did some others, who scoffed at the fact that he was a carpenter (Mark 6:3), nor by the greatness of the order of the intellect (his education was that which could be gained at the local synagogue school) Some of the creatures made by the Word of God are greater in these respects than the one who is the Word of God incarnate, and that one is not ashamed of his inferiority.

The last day of the feast was the greatest day of the feast, and so it was on this greatest day of the Feast of Tabernacles which Jesus was named.

Those who have had basic courses in the biblical languages and are willing to devote 20 minutes a day to such language study should gain enough language ability to base their sermon text study on the original text, and they should have enough linguistic skill to use the best of the great philological commentaries, which often cite words from the original languages.

Any children born in this day and age will grow up influenced not only by their parents, but to a much greater degree by the evils of contemporary society, which are now spread so quickly by our almost instantaneous communications.

How can the moribund old man reason back to himself the romance, the mystery, the imminence of great things with which our old earth tingled for him in the days when he was young and well?

Ask another what a home is, and a very different answer would be given: A home is a place where we have to consider the wishes of others, where we can not always have our own way, where children fall sick and require sacrificial care, where puzzling problems rise which it is hard to settle, where we must be true to love to keep it, where every day brings some small self - denial and every year some great one.
