exhibitions are
supported by an ambitious commissions programme,
which invites internationally acclaimed contemporary artists related to South Asia to create new work.
The second sub-theme linking the
exhibition with society at large deals with the work's conflict with its own
support, seen to less effect in Untitled (Angelica)(2013),
which sits on a sterile shelf attached to the wall.
The goal of the campaign is to demonstrate the arts» positive impact on the lives of Georgia residents and to underscore the importance of continued funding for the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services,
which support artistic initiatives, including educational programming,
exhibitions and performances.
Thanks to
support from the Art Fund, three of the works are now making their UK debut at Sir John Soane's Museum, as part of the
exhibition Power in Woman,
which draws parallels between Sir John Soane's classical plaster casts and Lucas's sculptures.
The
exhibition is part of the New Work series at SFMOMA,
