which are often avoided or ignored in most Bible Colleges, Seminaries, and churches.
Whether or not you share my admiration of the orthodox
doctrine, we have to recognize that it represents an interpretation of God and Jesus
which not only has had the allegiance of the vast majority of Christians in the history of the Church, but
which also has a proven track record as a
doctrine which can help people to lead faithful lives following the
teaching and example of the Christ.
But the Christian scientist as such in his own sphere is bound as a matter of principle and method by the Church's magisterium as the higher and more comprehensive authority, in the sense that even as a scientist he may not affirm as established with certainty by his science something
which would involve a definite contradiction of a
doctrine taught officially by the Church as certain (Denzinger 1656, 1674 ff., 1681, 2085).
Even if, however, all the contextual and exegetical material presented above is wrong, and this verse does in fact
teach that God ordained these particular Gentiles to receive eternal life (
which the arguments above show He did not), this verse is still not a good proof - text for the Calvinistic
doctrine of Unconditional Election.

In discussing the kind of
doctrine that ought to be
taught to Jesuit students, he wrote in the Constitutions: «The
doctrine which they ought to follow in each subject should be that
which is safest and most approved, as also the authors who
teach it» (no. 358).
Pastor Albert Mohler, a Southern Baptist, has commented that he respects the Congregation for the
Doctrine of the Faith's document Subsistitbecause it is consistent with previous Catholic
teaching (with
which he strongly disagrees), is honest about its inherent belief that the Papacy is integral to the nature of the Church, and that it shows a very sensible concern for the danger souls can put themselves in by being in serious error (as he believes Catholics are).
Throughout the 1970s and 80s Faith magazine often protested against these betrayals of Catholic truth and of God's people, all the while calling for and offering the outlines of a development of
doctrine which is faithful to the
teaching of Gaudium et Spes and the tradition.
