While that fundamental security is naturally still vital, the
open banking
initiative — which forced UK banks to
open their
data through secure APIs — began in earnest this January and is necessitating a different approach.
(f) Archiving is part of a larger movement to increase access to knowledge that also includes alternative forms of
open access publishing for journals and conference papers, involving dedicated
open access publishers (e.g. BMC), university libraries (e.g. UBC http://ojs.library.ubc.ca/) or groups using
open source software (e.g. DpubS),
while at the same time, this new spirit of openness is contributing to
open data (e.g., Dataverse Network) and
open notebook science (e.g. Useful Chem)
initiatives.
